BARCELONA (EFE).— Over the years, mobile phones have lost ground at the conference that was originally organized in his honor, but now they are coming to a head: cameras with robotic arms, devices with three panels and AI every other present mark the edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) de 2026 in Barcelona.

Catalan precision health company Made of Genes presented its Digital Twins project at Mobile World Congress, which uses artificial intelligence to transform biomedical data, GPS records and portable devices into a player’s “digital twin”.

According to company founder and CEO Laura Isús, the tool allows the technical body to “integrate genetic information, health indicators and workload into a single model” to “predict injury risk, adapt nutrition and adjust training and competition planning”.

The system also includes biomarkers based on organic technologies such as genomics, proteomics or metabolomics, common in the hospital environment, to translate elite advances in precision medicine.

The algorithms implemented differ by gender, given that “the pattern of injury differs between men and women” according to Isús, and are validated with data from professional soccer players in action.

Years in development, the project seeks to convert large volumes of data (genetic, epigenetic, biomedical, GPS and wearables) into actionable information through explainable artificial intelligence.

According to the doctor, this allows you to “personalize nutritional plans, prevent dynamic injuries and simulate different scenarios” to support the decisions of the technical body, always with clear and well-structured data to ensure that the algorithms are “safe”.

The red table included Liverpool first-team physical coach Jack Ade and Paris Saint-Germain head of innovation Ben Simpson, who agreed that the key to innovation at clubs was to “integrate data from different sources” and “increase player and coach acceptance” to make the new fixes effective.

On the other hand, the head of FC Barcelona’s medical field, doctor Gil Rodas, emphasized that the Catalan club has been working for “more than 15 years” in search of biomarkers that allow us to predict injuries and improve training planning, gradually incorporating advanced technologies used in hospitals.

Experts also highlighted the ability of “digital gems” to simulate different scenarios, such as training load or availability for parties, allowing them to make preventive decisions and reduce the risk of injury in professional football.

Project leaders pointed out that these digital models enable a more “proactive” focus on sports science, moving from pre-injury response to prediction and prevention, integrating physiology, biomechanics and genetics into a single system.

Similarly, Ade emphasized that the technology facilitates “real-time player monitoring”, combining data from portable devices, video analysis and motion sensing, allowing you to evaluate the internal and external strength of each soccer player in a personalized way.

I also found that integrating different data for gender is “key” and that recent studies show that men and women present different patterns of response to training and risk of injury, so algorithms adjust for these differences to improve the accuracy of data predictions.

The project also envisages collaboration between clubs and technical departments to share knowledge and best practices, “including Real Madrid”, said Rodas, with the aim of creating robust teams and stories that can be applied across different teams and competitions.
