Portuguese writer Gonçalo M. Tavares is the winner of the 2026 edition of the Formentor das Letras Prize, granted by the Spanish Formentor foundation and endowed with 50 thousand euros, the institution announced this Tuesday, March 3.
According to the jury minutes, Gonçalo M. Tavares receives this award “for the boldness with which he constructed a narrative alien to the temptations of the obvious and for telling the paradoxical epic of contemporary deviation”.
O Formentor das Letras Award 2026 was awarded to Gonçalo M. Tavares – the first Portuguese recipient – unanimously.
