Five people died and one is missing following the collapse of a wooden boardwalk that connected to a cliff this Tuesday, March 3, in the coastal area of El Bocal, near the Spanish city of Santander.
The accident was recorded at around 4:30 pm (one hour less in Lisbon) in a place very popular with walkers. The structure suddenly gave way at a time when seven people were crossing the walkway. In addition to the five deaths and the missing person, a girl was rescued alive and taken to the hospital.
The seven people on the walkway fell into the water and rocks.
Sources from the Cantabrian Ministry of Education, cited by the newspaper El País, say that the victims are young students at the La Granja Integrated Vocational Training Center, in the city of Heras. Their identities are still unknown, and they will be in their 20s.
It is worth noting that the search for the missing person is being hampered by the rugged terrain of that coastal area, made up of many rocks and natural pools, with very strong waves.
