Algarve. Suspect of attack with machete at gas station is in pre-trial detention

A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a machete at a gas station in the municipality of Lagoa, in the Algarve, GNR reported this Tuesday, March 3. The most serious measure of coercion was applied to him, preventive detention.

The arrest took place on Saturday and was carried out by the military from the Faro Territorial Command, following an incident at a gas station, according to a statement from this security force.

According to the GNR, the suspect “had attacked a 29-year-old man with a machete, causing injuries to his forearms and leg”, and the victim was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital unit.

Following the authorities’ efforts, after the incident, the sharp weapon used in the attack was seized “and a personal defense aerosol that was in the suspect’s vehicle”.

The detainee was brought to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) in Portimão, and the coercion measure of preventive detention was applied, the GNR also indicated.
