The 5,000 largest Portuguese companies together earned 305,088 million euros in 2024, which represents an increase of 4.5% compared to the previous year, according to an analysis by Iberinform.
These 5,000 companies also generated 1,193,424 jobs in 2024, an increase of 4.7% compared to 2023.
Among the main sectors that make up this ‘ranking’ are commerce, which represents 35% of companies, being responsible for 37% of business volume and 21% of employment.
Industry accounts for 27% of companies, with 28% of turnover and 23% of employment, while services account for 20% of companies, generating 15% of turnover and providing 39% of employment.
With regard to the geographic distribution of these companies, 35% are based in Lisbon, 18% are located in Porto, maintaining the trend in terms of income and job creation.
Lisbon leads the ranking, concentrating 47% of the total sales volume and 46% of the jobs generated, while the Porto district occupies the second position, with 16% of the sales volume and 20% of the jobs.
It is also noteworthy that 67.2% of companies export, totaling R$75,524 million in exports.
Furthermore, more than 70% of the companies on this list have been in business for over 16 years, while only 4% have been in existence for less than five years.
