Only 1 in 4 Americans approve of attacks on Iran: poll

WASHINGTON.— Solo one in four Americans approves of the attacks that the country launched yesterday Saturday together with Israel against Iran in which the supreme leader of the Islamic Republiche Ayatollah Ali Khameneiaccording to a survey published this Sunday by the Ipsos company and the Reuters agency.

He 27% of respondents approve of attackswhile the 43% disapprove and 29% said they were not sure. Nine out of ten respondents said they had heard something about the military operation.

Among voters registered as Republicans, the 55% approve of the attacks and the 13% disapprove. In the case of the Democrats, the 7% approve and the 74% disapprove.

The survey was conducted among 1,282 adults, with a margin of error of three percentage points. It was carried out during the attack and before the first American casualties were known.

Attacks ordered by Trump

The American president, Donald Trumphas ordered attacks against Iran, Venezuela y Nigeria and faces some criticism within his own base, as he campaigned promising to keep United States away from foreign wars.

At least three soldiers dead

So far, the United States has reported the death of at least three soldiers from the beginning, on Saturday, of the Operation Epic Furya series of joint attacks of United States and Israel against Iranin which the supreme leader, in power since 1989, and a good part of the military leadership of the Islamic Republic.

Iran vows revenge

Iran has promised avenge Khamenei’s death and, so far, it has attacked Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, among other allies of the United States, where this country maintains military bases.

Trump, who is at his private residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, announced early Saturday the launch of the operation, whose objective is to overthrow the Iranian regime, despite the fact that Washington and Tehran were holding negotiations for a new nuclear pact.

The Democratic opposition denounces not having been previously informed of the attack and accuses the Government of having started a covert war without the authorization of Congress, which has the power to approve a war intervention abroad.
