The head of foreign policy of the European Union, Kaja Kallassaid Sunday that the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was “a defining moment in Iran’s history.”

“What comes next is uncertain. But there is now an open path to a different Iran, one that its people can shape more freely.”Kallas said on the social network X.

“I am in contact with my partners, including those in the region bearing the brunt of Iran’s military actions, to find practical measures for de-escalation.”

Khamenei died on Saturday, Iranian state media announcedin Israeli and American airstrikes that pulverized its central complex in Tehran.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Sunday that she spoke with King Abdullah of Jordan and that Europe is “in full solidarity” with Jordan after the Iranian attacks.
