Here is one of the most incongruous comedies of the era. Rafaela y su loco mundoadaptation of Aníbal Gómez’s book The dazzling world of Rafaello Mozzarellahe was feared in Atresplayer as someone who would invade the party without being called: with the desire to turn into a refuge for people, they continue the whole absurdity.
Outwardly, it means spiritual reunification with the universe Muchachada Nui and with this “chanting” humor that turned cuteness into art and uncomfortable silence into an aesthetic category.
Created by Gómez y directed by Ernesto Sevillathe series returns to recognized leaders of the disparate country, such as Joaquín Reyes, Carlos Areces, Arturo Valls and Ingrid García-Jonsson.
From the life story of Rafaela, an eccentric teenager – perhaps mythological – who, surrounded by friends and family members as strange as entrañables, he will have to face improbable things to save the world…before she meets the most dreaded fate of all: becoming an adult.
Rafaela y su loco mundo It reawakens the conventions of familiar comedy and enters a more redeeming, absurd and pop territory that allows it to fly through the air with a degree of realism: time travel to the 23F coup, anal bleaching machines with the potential to change the balance of the planet, pajama parties that lead to paranormal…
WITH Self-contained episodes of a metafictional nature that last only 20 minutesthe series takes the form of “large sketches”. Rafaela y su loco mundo At no point do you lift the accelerator pedal to turn each episode into a maddening escalation where logic is exultant and excess marks the compass.
We meet in front of a very personal comedy full of character hyperbolic, eccentric and intentionally chaotic humor. To explain how the process went, El Cultural gets its director, Ernesto Sevilla.
Please. How did this particular project come about?
Response. They all struggle with a novel written by Aníbal Gómez. Arturo Valls leyo The dazzling world of Rafaello Mozzarella and I suggest turning it into a series. Hannibal, neither short nor complex, wrote a complete adaptation, From start to finish, the project was included in an interested international platform. But when it crossed the Atlantic, the reaction was something like, “But what is this?” (laughter). This became tense until Arturo hit his magic in Antenna 3 and finally saved her. We all know very well how we log it.
P. when will you come
R. Yo incorporate pork en Muchachada We didn’t drive anyone sketches he called Tontili Monguiliwhere Joaquín Reyes played a teenage girl. This tone fits the universe of the series perfectly. In addition, he knew a good part of the technical team. They actually hired me as a cargo director, but that was natural territory for me.
P. Do you have creative freedom? It’s not a series for all viewers…
R. The truth is that we got enough freedom from Antenna 3 and had almost no objections. The constraints are the usual: assumption and time. If anything, through economic adjustments rather than censorship or intervention.
“Unfortunately, I was forced to introduce some discipline in the midst of such a concentration of comedians in the same dwelling.”
P. The frenetic visual style seems to be more character than plot…
R. It was crucial that Rafaela’s world seemed salty from the episode Vaca y Pollo or Ren and Stimpy: discussed cases animated in real action. This exaggeration was carried in the spirit of Aníbal. The original idea was to develop deliberately fake decorations, but in the end we worked in a single place and could create the power of art kitsch y pop to reduce this artificial, colorful and excessive aesthetic.
P. With this series, the centers have been updated Muchachada Nui y Mount Chanante?
R. The fusion between the singer and the particular universe of Hannibal comes from the stars; You have worked with us on other occasions as well. We are friends and share a real sense of humor. I believe the result is complementary but also different: maintains a recognizable ADN, albeit with a personality of its own.
P. From now on, the ride seems really fun…
R. That’s what you usually think of when there’s a comedy The rods are quite routine and demanding at the bottom. There are hours to fill and little time to laugh. In this case, with the adjusted assumption, even less. We are of course safe, but not as much as people imagine. I feel better about other moments in life; I don’t always enjoy work the most.
P. You have to order it file?
R. Yes, unfortunately I was tasked with bringing some discipline to such a concentration of comedians in the same place with a penchant for cachondeo and charleta. But please, I’m aware of that.
P. There is constant metal language in the series and various home theater and television screens…
R. However, you will have very clear references in this guide we met many more that popped up during the ride. When we prepare the following, we always leave room for new things.
P. Many portraits appeared: Esty Quesada, Victoria Martín, David Verdaguer, The earthquake in Alcorcón… what surprised you the most?
R. All of them were fantastic, but personally I was especially inspired by David Verdaguer, who saw him as Rafaela’s gay friend. We are used to seeing this in serious and intense documentaries See how they do chorra here with complete freedom all year round.
“We never have big controversies because we work for absurdity”
P. What is the public response?
R. What binds me together is this people are very interested in the game: it is pleasure without pleasure, it is fun. We have received very positive responses. I was very grateful to someone who said, “If you notice that teenagers are not real girls, not even ladies!” (laughter).
P. In the midst of the current debate about the limits of humor, from the feeling that he has always inhabited a very recognizable comic universe that has managed to stay on the edge of controversy.
R. We never have big controversies because we work beyond the limits of the absurd. This changes the rules of the game. And I know we are very limited in our menu the public perfectly understands that our emphasis is light and we don’t want to provoke, but rather to play.
P. Can you move on with any of your other projects?
R. He is ready to learn if he has a second time; It’s not just about us. For my part, I am writing the plot of a dramatic comedy with the intention of directing it. I won’t count much more… just that, next time, in your windows! (laughter).
