Zarębski Piano Duo opens season in Arronches

There is also a jump from the Festival to Asturias and the return of the Terras Sem Sombra International Award. What is the objective?

Since its beginnings, in 2003, Terras sem Sombra has developed regular work with Spain. We are a Portuguese-Spanish festival. The recent agreement with the Badajoz Iberian Music Festival, signed by the Diputación Provincial of this city, reinforces the peninsular dimension, which is ours. We are focused on bringing Alentejo and Ribatejo closer to different communities in the neighboring country – and welcoming them, in turn, among us. In addition to pressing issues, such as access to culture, there are other areas in which cross-border cooperation proves to be a powerful mobilizing instrument. We will hold a Lands without Shadow in Asturias, in Ribera de Arriba (Oviedo). We want to build bridges with European partners, and beyond, for the internationalization of low-density territories, which face common problems. If the State, absurdly centralist, cares little about what happens outside of Lisbon or Porto, we will not stand by: we will fight Leviathan.

Can you explain a little about the concept of this Festival that brings together classical music with heritage and the environment?

Terras Sem Sombra is a somewhat peculiar festival, in that it is based on three pillars: classical music (not just so-called “classical” music, whatever that may be, but also ancient music, traditional music and contemporary creation); cultural heritage; and biodiversity, understood in a broad sense, with links to natural resources. qualified cultural programming. As a regional festival, we are committed to blurring differences in access to qualified cultural programming. Today, the country lives, to a large extent, thanks to the interior, but tends to take it secondary. We fight this every day.

After Arronches, which municipality receives Terras and with what program?

Santiago do Cacém hosts, on March 28th, the ceremony for the International Lands Without Shadow Award. This is traditionally intended to honor a personality or institution that stood out, on a global level, in promoting Music, valuing Cultural Heritage and safeguarding Biodiversity. In 2026, two other categories were created: International Cooperation/Public Service and Sounds without Shadow/New Talents. Here is a sign of renewal. Princess D. Maria Francisca de Bragança, Duchess of Coimbra, a committed and sensitive young woman, presides over the Award. His charisma points to a different, more complete Portugal.
