“I want the truth to come out.” Hillary Clinton was interviewed for more than six hours about Jeffrey Epstein

After being interviewed for more than six hours behind closed doors by members of Congress on the House Oversight Committee, Hillary Clinton told reporters on Thursday night that she “wants to see the truth come out” about the Epstein case. In front of the Arts Center in Chappaqua, the city in New York State where the couple lives, the former Secretary of State praised the commission’s chairman, Republican James Comer, for raising a series of important questions about the nature of the investigation and for listening to her about the areas that the Democrat considers need to be explored.

“I appreciated that. I want the truth to come out, so this was a reassuring way to end a very long and repetitive testimony,” he said at the end of the hearing.

The former first lady confirmed that she repeatedly answered the same question from congressmen about whether she knew the sex offender. “I don’t know how many times I had to say that I didn’t know Jeffrey Epstein,” she declared, stating that her husband had ended his connections with Epstein before the sexual abuse committed by the tycoon became known. And he said he was sure that the former US president knew nothing about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes.

As he had already stated publicly, Clinton told congressmen that he knew Ghislaine Maxwell – serving 20 years in prison for sex trafficking of teenagers in connection with Epstein’s crimes – “casually as an acquaintance”, adding that the British “was as an escort, a guest of someone who was invited” to his daughter Chelsea Clinton’s wedding in 2010.

Hillary Clinton also criticized the Republicans, who control Congress, for having “refused to hold a public hearing”, forcing her to describe her statements later to journalists. In this sense, he had also published on social media the initial statement that he would read in front of congressmen.

Also speaking to reporters after the hearing, Republican James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said he would try to release the video of Clinton’s testimony within 24 hours. Comer described the hearing as “productive” and “learned a lot,” but that Hillary Clinton often referred questions to her husband. “We have a lot of questions for her husband tomorrow [esta sexta-feira]”, added the Republican.
