Strong explosions shook the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, early Friday local timeshortly after the Taliban government announced that launched an offensive against Pakistan on the borderAFP journalists reported present in the Afghan capital.
The explosions were heard throughout the city starting at 1:50 a.m. (9:20 p.m. GMT on Thursday) and were accompanied by the sound of fighter jets, the AFP team in Kabul reported.

One resident said that there were even eight explosions.
“The first two explosions were further away from us. The last ones were close and shook the house, and you can hear fighter jets after each explosion,” said the resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons.
After the explosions there were several bursts of gunshots that AFP journalists heard in the center of Kabul until around 2:30 in the morning.
Hours earlier, the Afghan army had attacked Pakistani troops on the borderin retaliation for deadly airstrikes in the previous days.
Relations between these neighboring countries in Asia have seriously deteriorated in recent months.
Important border crossings remain closed since the October clashes, in which more than 70 people died on both sides.
Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of not act against militant groups that carry out attacks on its territory, something that the Taliban government denies.


The Pakistan Air Force has bombed the Taliban’s headquarters in Kabul, with reports claiming top Taliban leaders and around 200 militants have been killed.
