Health exports surpassed the five billion euro mark in 2025, an increase of 37.9% compared to 2024, according to an AICEP analysis based on data from the National Statistics Institute.
The 2025 results “surpass all previous records, with exports from the Health sector reaching a total of 5,653 million euros, and now representing 7.1% of total national exports”, said Health Cluster Portugal, a private non-profit association, in a statement.
Regarding the type of product, the largest share of exports corresponds to pharmaceutical preparations, which represented 85.2% of the total in 2025, followed by medical devices, responsible for 10.5%, and basic pharmaceutical products, with 3.8%.
In terms of trading partners, Germany was the main export market for national products, followed by the United States, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Angola and Denmark.
Joaquim Cunha, executive director of Health Cluster Portugal, highlighted, cited in a statement, that “these numbers demonstrate the resilience and competitiveness of the sector, even in an international context that has proven to be increasingly demanding and volatile”.
