CIP presents new proposal with changes to labor law

“We don’t know how long the reconstruction will take, whether it’s months or years”states Armindo Monteiro, reiterating that the objective is that within the current uncertain term regime, “foreign workers could be hired under this regime”. The president of the CIP, however, does not detail the details of this proposal.

Among the more than 100 changes to the Labor Code proposed by the government, which appear in the draft presented in July, there is an amendment that provides for an increase in the maximum duration of contracts for an indefinite period (in which a precise end date is not defined), from four to five years.

To Lusa, Armindo Monteiro also criticizes the red lines that were pointed out by the UGT — namely in terms of fixed-term contracts, time banks or the outsourcing –, remembering that “it is bad when, in a demanding negotiation, matters that cannot be discussed are immediately decreed”, but emphasizes that the new proposal maintains the position already defended by the confederation on these matters.
