Canada announces sending humanitarian aid to Cuba

The government of Canada announced that will send humanitarian aid to Cuba for about 5.8 million dollars, through the United Nations World Food Program and UNICEF, to ensure that “reach directly to the Cuban people.”

“While the people of Cuba face significant difficulties, Canada remains supportive and provides targeted assistance to address urgent needs,” Foreign Minister Anita Anand declared this Wednesday.

After the capture of Venezuelan leftist leader Nicolás Maduro in an attack by US forces on January 3, Venezuela stopped supplying oil to Cuba, which has worsened the crisis on the island.

This Wednesday, Washington confirmed that it allows the sale of oil and gas to the Caribbean country for use by the private sector.
