Trump takes credit for the dejection of ‘El Mencho’: ‘We have overthrown him’

The president framed the event within what he called a new military campaign against drug trafficking.

He maintained that his government detained record quantities of drugs by sea and assured that the flow to his country is “virtually stopped.”

He also claimed responsibility for bombings against vessels used for illicit shipping, operations that have generated criticism for their legality and lethal outcome.

“We took down one of the main leaders of drug trafficking; they saw him yesterday,” in reference to Nemesio Oseguera Cervanteshead of Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

In the same tone, the president took credit for Maduro’s capture, pointing out that the United States carried out a “bold” arrest in Latin America, the first of a sitting president since 1989. He added that his administration facilitated the release of political prisoners and highlighted energy agreements with Caracas.
