The US authorizes the sale of oil to Cuba, with conditions

The United States authorized the sale of oil and gas to Cuba as long as companies ensure that the fuel will go into the hands of citizens and private sector companies, the Treasury Department.

“Gas and other petroleum products exported and re-exported to Cuban private sector entities or individuals for personal use may be authorized under the SCP License Exception” explains the explanatory note from the Treasury Department.

For his part, the Department of the Treasury and Department of Commerce Americans clarified what conditions will be allowed for oil exports.

“To be authorized, exports must be at the same time for use by the Cuban private sector and for activities of the private economic sector, including humanitarian needs,” the text explains.

On the other hand, the note explains that the oil and gas will leave the United Statesalthough the initial origin is Venezuela.

“Exporters and re-exporters have the responsibility of review current Department of Commerce guidance“, warns the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Department of the Treasury.

President Donald Trump warned after the coup inflicted on Caracas that he was going to control the destination of Venezuelan crude oil. That oil, he explained, was going to be sold on the market at international prices, and American companies had priority.
