Anyone who grew up in the 1990s has hardly forgotten the repercussions of Mamonas Assassinas. From March 8th, at 9pm, the group’s story comes to Brazilian TV with the premiere of “Mamonas Assassinas – A Série”, on Record Europa. The production recounts the trajectory of the band that left Guarulhos to become a national phenomenon in just a few months – and which to this day cradles the emotional memory of many Brazilians who live in Portugal.
The series begins in 1992, when Dinho, Sérgio and Samuel Reoli, Júlio Rasec and Bento Hinoto tried to make a living from music while balancing rehearsals with other work. The plot follows the difficult beginning, the formation of the group’s irreverent identity and the construction of a style that mixed rock, pagode, country music and open humor, a combination that quickly won over the public.

In the main roles are Ruy Brissac (Dinho), Rhener Freitas (Sérgio Reoli), Adriano Tunes (Samuel Reoli), Robson Lima (Júlio Rasec) and Beto Hinoto (Bento Hinoto). The production also portrays important characters in this trajectory, such as producer Rick Bonadio, as well as family members and people close to them who closely followed the transformation of those five young people into popular idols.
The narrative goes through the release of the band’s only album, in 1995, which sold millions of copies and placed songs like “Pelados em Santos” and “Vira-Vira” at the top of the radio. The series also addresses the plane crash on March 2, 1996, which abruptly interrupted the group’s career at the height of their success.
“Mamonas Assassinas – A Série” premieres on March 8th, at 9pm, on Record Europa, available on the main pay TV operators in Portugal.
