Following the death of Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Menchito”, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, the Mexican Security Cabinet held a high-level meeting with Sara Carter, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) of the United States, and the US ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson.
HIGH LEVEL MEETING
The meeting, described as “very productive,” was held under the instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The commitment to bilateral collaboration was reaffirmed, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and cooperation based on mutual trust.
MEXICAN REPRESENTATIVES
Senior officials of the Mexican government participated:
- Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Ministry of the Interior.
- General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, Secretary of National Defense.
- Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Secretary of the Navy.
- Omar García Harfuch, head of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection.
- Roberto Velasco, undersecretary for North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Mexican Cabinet stressed that the meeting seeks to strengthen joint mechanisms to combat organized crime and drug trafficking, especially after the operation that ended the life of “El Menchito” on February 22.
BILATERAL COOPERATION AND CONFIDENTIALITY
The official message highlighted that coordination will be developed within a framework of respect for sovereignty, cooperation based on trust and direct communication between both countries. This type of meeting reinforces the security and narcotics control strategy in Mexican territory, as well as coordination with US agencies.
SECURITY CONTEXT
The meeting takes place at a critical moment after the neutralization of a senior leader of the CJNG, considered one of the most powerful cartels in Mexico. Bilateral coordination will allow us to reinforce operational actions, exchange intelligence and prevent new threats linked to organized crime.
