He former treasury secretary from the United States Larry Summers resigned from his teaching position at Harvard University due to their ties to the criminal Jeffrey Epsteinthe institution reported on Wednesday.
Summers, who directed the Treasury Department under the government of the former president Bill Clinton (1993-2001) and became president of Harvard in the 2000s, appeared in the Epstein files published by the Department of Justice as someone who had extensive exchanges with the now deceased financier.
Clinton will testify Friday before a congressional committee about the Epstein case, while his wife, the former Secretary of State Hillary Clintonwill appear on Thursday.
“The dean of the Harvard Kennedy School, Jeremy Weinstein, has accepted the resignation of Professor Lawrence H. Summers from his position as co-director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government,” the university said in a statement, noting that the decision was related to the Epstein case.
“Professor Summers announced that he will retire from his academic and faculty positions at Harvard at the end of this academic year and will remain on leave until then,” he added.
In a previous video that went viral, Summers had expressed to students his regret over his ties to Epstein.

Summers appears numerous times in Epstein’s file, convicted in 2008 of soliciting prostitution services from a minor and found dead in prison in 2019 while awaiting a new trial for sexual crimes.
In November 2025, Summers announced that he was stepping back from his public commitments after Congress released emails showing close communication between him and the financier.
“I take full responsibility for my ill-advised decision to have continued in communication with Mr. Epstein,” he then declared to the American media.
Summers, who also worked for the government of Barack Obama at the head of the body in charge of coordinating the economic policy of the White Househad already resigned from the foundation’s board OpenAI following those revelations.
The mere mention of someone’s name in the Epstein files does not, in itself, imply any criminal act on the part of that person.
The financier made donations of $9.1 million to Harvard University between 1998 and 2008, according to the institution.
Several prominent figures of USAfrom the Clintons to the co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gateshave had their reputation damaged by their friendship with Epstein, but no one except Epstein’s accomplice and ex-partner, Ghislaine Maxwellhas so far faced legal consequences in USA.
