Four men aboard a North American speedboat shot dead after being intercepted in Cuban waters

The Cuban Ministry of the Interior announced that four men aboard a speedboat registered in the United States were shot dead after being intercepted in Cuban waters.

The ministry said in a statement that the boat’s passengers had fired at an approaching coast guard vessel. Six other passengers were injured in the incident, which occurred near an island off the northern coast of Cuba.

The identity of the vessel’s occupants and their intentions in that area were not clarified. The Cuban government reported that an investigation has been launched to clarify what happened.

In a statement released on the social network

When a Cuban vessel with five coast guard members approached the ship for identification, “the crew of the offending boat opened fire” and injured the Cuban commander, according to the statement.
