Death toll rises to 46 due to torrential rains in Brazil

At least 46 people died and 21 are missing due to torrential rains in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, the Fire Department indicated this Wednesday, February 25th in a new report.

Firefighters found the bodies of fifteen people between dawn and afternoon this Wednesday in the municipality of Juiz de Fora, the most affected by the strong storm that began on Monday and which still threatens to cause damage in the region.

In Juiz de Fora, which has around half a million inhabitants, 40 deaths have been recorded so far and the whereabouts of 19 people are still being attempted.

The other victims were concentrated around one hundred kilometers away, in the town of Ubá, which accounts for at least six deaths and two missing.

Six other municipalities in the region also recorded significant damage, although without fatalities.

Security forces are currently working on nine operational fronts and have rescued around 200 people alive in the region.

Torrential rains left a trail of destruction in this green and mountainous area of ​​the state of Minas Gerais.

There were several landslides, serious floods that submerged entire neighborhoods and structural damage to infrastructure.

Around 3,600 inhabitants of Juiz de Fora and Ubá had to leave their homes in the last few hours.
