HAVANA.- This Wednesday the Cuban Border Guard Troop killed to four crew of one speedboat quickly from USA what did not obey when he was stopped in territorial waters and opened fire on the police boatreported the Ministry of the Interior (Mention).
The official statement, replicated in several state media, also indicated that six other people of the speedboat quick were injured in the exchangeas well as “the commander of the Cuban boat”, in which a total of five people were patrolling.
The Cuban authorities also indicated that they provided medical assistance to all the injured.
The incident occurred in the morning hours of this Wednesday, when the Cuban authorities detected “an offending speedboat within Cuban territorial waters with the license plate of Florida, United States, with folio FL7726SH.”
According to the Minint report, the boat approached “northeast of the El Pino canal, in Falcones key, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province” (central Cuba) where a unit approached with five members of the Border Guard Troops “for identification.”
Then the offending boat opened fire on the Cuban troops, who also responded with gunfire.
In this exchange Four members of the speedboat died and a total of seven people were injured (six people traveling on the civilian vessel and a member of the Border Guard Troop).

At the moment, the Minint did not provide data on the identities or possible motivations of the members of the speedboat.
Tension between the United States and Cuba
The incident occurs in the midst of strong tension between the United States and Cuba, after Washington imposed an oil siege on the island and urged Havana to reach an agreement.
In recent years, several incidents of this type have been reported, two of them from 2022. In one case, a speedboat coming from The United States fired on Cuban border guard forces near Villa Clara and injured a Cuban officer.
The other event occurred in Bahía Honda when a boat from the United States collided with a Minint patrol boat and the result was the sinking of the first and the death of several of its crew.
The island’s authorities frequently report the discovery of abandoned or captured speedboats on the northern coast (Ciego de Ávila, Villa Clara, Havana) usually used to pick up potential migrants, pointing out these actions as “territorial violations and human trafficking.”
