The X-Files reboot has been officially approved, which will be directed by Ryan Coogler, filmmaker of Sinners e Black Pantherand streamed on Hulu, one of Disney’s streaming services (available in the UK on Disney+).
Actress Danielle Deadwyler, from The Harder They Fallwas chosen to take on the role of Dana Scully, which was played by Gillian Anderson, as an FBI agent.
The pilot episode, written and directed by Coogler, will open the door for a series, produced by Hulu.
The story will once again center on two “highly decorated but completely different” agents who “form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-defunct division dedicated to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”
One of the agents will be Deadwyler, 43 years old, who participated in Oscar-nominated films Justice for Emmett Till (2022) e The Piano Lesson (2024).
Coogler revealed his involvement in the series in April last year, in a podcast during the promotion of Sinners. “I’ve been excited about this for a long time and I’m excited to get back to it. Some of these episodes, if we do our jobs right, are really scary,” he said at the time.
The filmmaker added that he spoke to the original Scully, “the great Gillian Anderson,” about a possible cameo or appearance in the reboot. “She’s incredible. Let’s hope she can get involved in some way,” he added.
