PSP agent injured in approach to drug suspect in Porto

A PSP agent suffered injuries to his face on Monday, February 23, during an approach to a drug trafficking suspect in Porto, who became aggressive and ended up being detained, a police source told Lusa.

The incident occurred late in the afternoon in the Cerco do Porto neighborhood, when the agent approached a suspected drug trafficker.

The suspect became aggressive, resisted the approach and pushed the agent against a wall, explained a PSP source in Porto.

Previously, a police source had reported that a 19-year-old drug trafficking suspect had run over the officer.

The agent was transported to Hospital de São João with bruises on his face, underwent tests and has already been discharged, the same source detailed in the most recent update.

The detainee, who had a “considerable amount of narcotic product in his possession”, was taken to his cells and will be brought to court today, he added.
