In Minas Gerais, in cities such as Juiz de Fora and Ubá – in the forest area of Minas Gerais – it rained in 14 hours the same volume expected for the entire month of February. 190 millimeters of water devastated the region, leaving more than 400 people homeless and, at the time this text was published, 22 people dead.
In Rio de Janeiro, the scenario was identical, with the capital of that state recording dozens of incidents and floods, and with the main road that connects Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo, the Presidente Dutra highway, being closed for several hours. There, the number of homeless people stands at 600, with only one death being recorded – an elderly woman with mobility difficulties was trapped in her home and died from drowning.
In São Paulo, authorities are on standby due to the possibility of landslides and continued rain. Between last Saturday, February 21st, and Monday, February 23rd, it rained in Peruíbe, a region on the coast of São Paulo, an accumulated 282 millimeters of rain, a value 46% above the expected average for the month of February.
