Time is running out. In Mexico, the mandatory registration to connect phone lines to CURP is a reality and the deadline of June 30, 2026 is holding thousands of users with a shared question: Will this news affect my WhatsApp account?

EL RIESGO REAL: WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK?
Today, WhatsApp works independently and can be used via the included Wi-Fi without an active cellular service. Regardless, it can change dramatically.
In an interview with MillenniumAbán Román, CEO of Planeación from CRT, revealed that he is analyzing the new regulation in conjunction with META. The goal is for every person with a WhatsApp account to have a chip registered in their name.
“We analyze that WhatsApp does not allow anyone who does not have an associated or registered chip to use its platform,” the management said.

If you join on July 1st and don’t complete your registration, your line will have strict restrictions for your operator:
- Suspension of services: You cannot receive calls or send text messages (SMS).
- View data files: You will be asked online from home; the boss of your company stops working.
- Limited use: Your phone will only be used for emergency calls or to contact the operator.
Whatsapp? You can still use it exclusively with Wi-Fi, while the new modification with META is specific. Once registered, if your line is not registered, you may lose full access to the messaging application.

One of the biggest concerns is receiving sensitive or sensitive data. CRT is emphatic: it is not a permanent biometric master. To register, only if you request:
- Full name.
- CURP or official identification.
- Life test: A short facial movement in front of the camera to verify your identity.
Important: The system will only match your face with identification to verify that you are, and according to CRT, this facial data will appear immediately, it will not be stored in a database.
WHY IS REGISTRY MANDATORY?
Medicine seeks to reduce crimes such as extortion and virtual kidnapping. Currently, the CRT estimates that 85% of the country’s 158 million mobile lines are anonymous, facilitating the use of “destructible chips” for illegal activities.
