Peter Mandelson arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office

Peter Mandelson was detained this Monday, February 23, by inspectors who are investigating allegations of misconduct in public office during his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.

According to the The Guardianvideo footage shows him being taken from his home in an unmarked car shortly after being escorted by police.

“Officers arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was arrested at an address in Camden on Monday 23 February and taken to a police station in London for questioning,” said a police spokesperson, adding that “this follows search and seizure warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas.”

The Metropolitan Police are investigating Mandelson’s alleged escape from emails while he was minister of British government and confidential market information to Epstein.

The appointment of Peter Mandelson as UK ambassador to the United States, after some of his connections with Jefffrey Epstein became known, which subsequently led to his removal from office, opened a political crisis and put Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s continued leadership of the government at risk.
