This Sunday, February 22, FC Porto beat Rio Ave 1-0, in a game from the 23rd round of the I League held at Estádio do Dragão.
A goal from Froholdt was enough for Francesco Farioli’s team to secure the three points that allowed the Dragons to maintain their four-point advantage over Sporting and seven over Benfica.
The truth is that in the opening minutes the Porto team suffered some scares following attacks from Rio Ave, but also due to difficulties in getting the ball out of their defense.
But in the 22nd minute everything started to come together for FC Porto, when through a good collective play, the Danish Froholdt deflected a good move into the back of the goal in which Gabri Veiga and the young Polish Pietuszewski intervened.
From then on, the Porto players grew in the game, they had several opportunities, including a shot at the post by Deniz Gül. The Turkish striker would even have to score the second goal at the beginning of the second half, which ended up being disallowed for offside, after being analyzed by the VAR.
At the 60-minute mark, Froholdt came very close to scoring twice, but the ball hit the post.
The Dragons were always closer to the second goal, with Dutch goalkeeper Ennio van der Gow stopping Pablo Rosario’s header in the 87th minute and, shortly after, it was Moffi who shot at the post.
Despite the failures in finishing, the Dragons achieved the victory that keeps them firmly in the lead, while the Vilacondenses suffered their sixth consecutive defeat.
