Eight dead after minibus falls into a crack in the ice of a lake in Russia

Russian divers recovered the bodies this Saturday, February 21st. of seven Chinese tourists and a Russian driver after the minibus they were traveling in fell into a crack in the ice sheet of Lake Baikal, in Siberia, Russia. The accident occurred on Friday, when the vehicle was crossing the frozen surface.

According to authorities in the Russian region of Irkutsk, the bus fell into a crack in the ice about three meters wide, in an area 18 meters deep. One of the tourists managed to escape. Search operations used underwater cameras.
