Benfica beats AVS with new uniform and thoughts on Madrid (see the goals)

This Saturday, February 21st, Benfica beat AVS 3-0, in a game from the 23rd round of the I League held at Estádio da Luz.

On the afternoon that they debuted a new uniform in honor of street football, José Mourinho’s team designed some beautiful plays, reminiscent of street football, against the bottom team that was coming off its first victory in the championship.

The red-blacks’ first goal came naturally in the 11th minute, in a special moment for Danish Alexander Bah, who opened the scoring in the game in which he returned to the field after an absence of one year and 13 days due to a serious knee injury. The right defender appeared to reload a shot by Pavlidis that was saved by goalkeeper Adriel.

AVS showed little ability to trouble Benfica’s defense, so the game was a one-way affair, with the home team creating several dangerous opportunities, with Schjelderup in great focus. The second goal came in the 30th minute following a corner, with Enzo Barrenechea shooting the ball home after an assist from Richard Ríos.

Just before half-time, Rafa Silva scored his first goal since returning to Benfica, with a stunning shot after an excellent pass from Sidny Lopes Cabral.

In the second half, Benfica’s dominance continued despite Mourinho having started to rest some players with a view to the Champions League game, on Wednesday, at Real Madrid’s home, which this Saturday lost to Osasuna, in Pamplona, 1-2, with the Whites’ goal being scored by Vinícius Júnior.

There were several opportunities created, with the highlight being a shot at the post by Sidny. However, the result did not change.

This result keeps Benfica three points behind Sporting, leaving them now four points behind FC Porto, which only hosts Rio Ave this Sunday.
