Iran reaffirmed this Thursday, February 19, that no country can deny Tehran its right to enrich uranium for a nuclear program for peaceful purposes, when tensions between the Iranian regime and the United States increase.
“The basis of the nuclear industry is enrichment. For everything you want to do in the nuclear process, you need nuclear fuel”declared the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency, Mohammad Eslami, in a video published by the newspaper Etemad.
“Iran’s nuclear program is progressing in accordance with the rules of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and no country can deprive Iran of its right to peacefully benefit from this technology”added the person in charge.
Eslami thus reaffirmed his country’s strong claim to the right to enrich, after the United States warned Iran on Wednesday that it would be “very advisable” to reach an agreement, reiterating its threat of military action if diplomacy fails. US President Donald Trump has already sent a significant naval force to the Persian Gulf region.
Tehran and Washington held a second round of negotiations in Geneva on Tuesday, with the mediation of Oman, at the end of which they agreed to continue discussions, although they stressed that they are still far from overcoming their differences.
