At least three dead and 10 injured after gas truck explosion in Chile

An explosion of a truck transporting gas caused on Thursday the death of at least three people and left 10 injured in SantiagoChile informed the authorities.

Around 08:00 local time (11:00 GMT), the driver of the vehicle lost control near the peripheral town of Renca and impacted the containment barrier.

“We have three people dead, 10 injured, of varying degrees, some serious,” presidential delegate Gonzalo Durán told the press, adding that the causes of the accident are being investigated.

The explosion generated a large column of smoke, visible from different parts of the capital.

Police General VĂ­ctor Vielma indicated that the explosion hit “some vehicles that were inside an adjacent area and affected an existing dome in the sector.”

The firefighters fight the fire.
