Ukraine and Russia shoot down hundreds of drones amid negotiations

This Wednesday, February 18, Ukraine accused Russia of launching 126 unmanned aircraft during the night, while Moscow said it had shot down 43 Ukrainian drones, before the second day of negotiations mediated by the United States, in Geneva.

According to the report released this Wednesday by the Ukrainian air force, air defenses managed to neutralize 100 of 126 Russian long-range drones, of which around 80 were Iranian-made Shahed aircraft.

The air force, which provides daily updates on Russian airstrikes, said another 23 drones were not intercepted and hit 14 different areas of Ukraine, the location of which was not disclosed.

The report said fragments from some of the neutralized drones fell at three other locations, adding that the attack was not over, with several Russian drones still flying over Ukraine.

Also this Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that air defenses shot down 43 long-range Ukrainian drones overnight in six regions and over the Black Sea.

On the Telegram messaging platform, the Russian military command said that most of the drones (21) were neutralized over the Bryansk region.

The remaining attacks took place in Belgorod, on the Ukrainian peninsula annexed from Crimea, in Kursk, Rostov and Chuvashia, while another drone was shot down over the Black Sea.

The attack prompted Russian aviation authorities to temporarily restrict operations at airports in Cheboksary, Kazan, Kaluga, Saratov and Volgograd.

Ukrainians and Russians are expected to resume negotiations in Geneva this Wednesday, under the mediation of the United States, to try to find a solution to four years of conflict.
