Google made official this Wednesday, February 18th, the launch of the Pixel 10a, the newest addition to its line of smartphones. This intermediate model, which positions itself as a balanced opportunity within the brand’s ecosystem, integrates the Californian company’s cutting-edge processor, the Tensor G4, in a more compact and sustainable body.
The Pixel 10a maintains the aesthetic approach of its predecessor, the 9a, of a completely flat back, allowing the cell phone to rest stably on any surface. The iconic camera bar has been smoothly integrated, making it easy to use on a daily basis and slide into your pocket.
In the field of sustainability, the brand states that this is the “A” series Pixel with the most recycled materials to date. For the first time recycled cobalt, copper, gold and tungsten are used in its construction. The frame is 100% recycled aluminum, while the matte back panel uses 81% recycled plastic. This season’s colors (a variable element each year) are Mist, Obsidian, Raspberry and Lavender.
Brighter Actua screen
The device comes equipped with a 6.3-inch Actua (POLED) display, which now offers a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, an 11% improvement over the previous model, according to the manufacturer, which should ensure full visibility even in intense summer sun. The refresh rate is variable, from 60Hz to 120Hz, to ensure fluid navigation in all applications.
Inside, the Tensor G4 chip works in conjunction with 8GB of RAM and the new Android 16. The 5100mAh (typical) battery now supports 45W fast charging, allowing you to reach half charge in about 30 minutes. In terms of autonomy, the promise is more than 30 hours of normal use.
Photography with Gemini assistance
The camera system includes a 48 megapixel (MP) main sensor and a 13 MP ultra-wide angle sensor. This year, the big news is the introduction of Camera Assistant, which uses Gemini models to analyze the scene in real time and suggest improvements in lighting and composition.
AI editing tools have also been expanded: “Auto Best Take” analyzes multiple frames to ensure everyone in the group is smiling, while the “Add Me” feature allows the photographer to join the group photo later via AI image merging. Additionally, you can now edit images by simply describing the desired change using natural language in Google Photos.
Comparison with the Pixel 9a
Compared to its predecessor, the previous model had a maximum brightness of 2700 nits, now gaining a brighter screen (3000 nits), consolidating itself as the brightest screen in the category. Physical durability has also been reinforced, replacing the old Gorilla Glass 3 with the more resistant Gorilla Glass 7i. Energy efficiency is another breaking point, with the Pixel 10a nearly doubling wired charging speeds (from 23W to 45W) and introducing critical security and connectivity features like satellite SOS and fast sharing compatibility with iPhones’ AirDrop system.
These additions are made with Google maintaining the same pricing strategy: the launch price of the Pixel 10a is identical to that of the 9a at its debut, around 560 euros in the base version.
As with all Pixel models today, the 10a supports seven years of operating system, security, and exclusive “Pixel Drops” updates. The phone will now be available for pre-order and is officially scheduled to arrive in national stores and operators on March 5th.
