Microsoft invests 42 billion euros in AI in the Global South by 2030

Microsoft announced this Wednesday, February 18, a commitment to invest around 42 billion euros by the end of the decade with the aim of bringing the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) to countries in the Global South.

“We are sharing today that Microsoft is on track to invest $50 billion [42,227 mil milhões de euros] by the end of the decade, helping to bring artificial intelligence to countries in the Global South,” said company president Brad Smith, who was speaking in New Delhi at the AI Impact Summit 2026.

The executive explained that this investment will be part of a five-step program, designed to ensure the broad and effective adoption of these tools on a large scale in emerging economies.

The investment plan, continued Brad Smith, will also allow beneficiary countries to have clear monitoring mechanisms, ensuring that citizens can transparently evaluate the progress of technological implementation.

“Our five-step program is designed to make the adoption of artificial intelligence a reality at scale, so that communities have what they need to access it, trust it and apply it to their local priorities,” the official highlighted.

The AI Impact Summit 2026 is the largest artificial intelligence summit to date, designed as a setting to define the balance between cutting-edge innovation and citizen security on a global scale.

The meeting brings together more than 20 heads of state and 500 technology industry leaders in the Indian capital, with the aim of reaching a consensus on the rules that will govern the digital economy of the next decade.
