“UGT cannot help but regret the announcement of such a meeting, following contacts by the Government in which UGT immediately informed its unavailability for the proposed date and its availability for any other date”, reads a statement released this Wednesday by the union center.
For UGT, “this is a clear haste in view of the need, in meetings of this nature, to agree dates and agenda with the other interlocutors”.
Reaffirming the “total availability to participate in future meetings”, the center emphasizes that “the work to be done will still be long”, so that “the rush of this extemporaneous ‘call’ is not justified”.
Especially because, he maintains, “there was not even any discussion around the UGT proposals consolidated in the document ‘Work with Rights XXI’”.
Considering this situation “inadequate within the framework of a process that is intended to be serious, credible and carried out with loyalty and transparency”, the trade union central says it hopes that “it will not be repeated in the future, whatever the nature of the meetings in question”.
“In view of the above, it is up to UGT to reiterate, as publicly as the news of the meeting, that the same, if verified, will be held without the presence of the Central, due to issues on the agenda”, he concludes.
This Wednesday’s meeting was called for 3pm at the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security (MTSSS), in Lisbon.
Delegations from the Business Confederation of Portugal (CIP), Confederation of Commerce and Services of Portugal (CCP), Confederation of Farmers of Portugal (CAP) and Confederation of Portuguese Tourism (CTP) must be present at the meeting.
The General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP) was not called to this meeting, an inter-union source confirmed to Lusa.
