More than 1,600 complaints related to dating violence were registered by the Public Security Police (PSP) last year, an increase of 15% compared to 2024, revealed this Wednesday, February 18, that security force, which appealed for the complaint.
The PSP indicated to Lusa that, in 2025, it received 1,663 reports of dating violence, while in the previous year it had registered 1,412 complaints.
To prevent domestic violence, in particular dating violence, the PSP carried out the “No Dating No There is War” operation between the 9th and 13th of February, promoting awareness-raising activities in schools for young people in the 3rd cycle of primary and secondary education.
In a statement, the PSP says that during these five days it carried out 398 awareness actions in 223 schools, which involved 359 police officers and 14,079 participants from the entire school community, in addition to making 705 individual crime prevention contacts.
A PSP emphasizes that it created police assistance structures for victims of domestic violence to “improve the monitoring of especially vulnerable victims”and there are currently 19 of these structures spread across the Metropolitan Commands of Porto (the first to be created) and Lisbon, in the regional command of Madeira and in the district commands of Castelo Branco, Évora, Portalegre, Setúbal and Viseu.
This security force also calls for the reporting of any situation of violence, whether in a dating relationship or in another context, stressing that victims, witnesses or any other person who is aware of episodes of this type can file a complaint at a PSP police station, at the police assistance structures for victims of domestic violence or seek help from the Safe School Program teams, as well as throughescolasegura@psp.pt or violenciadomestica@psp.pt.
