A Show of Globalization and Politics

Bad Bunny’s halftime show Super Bowl North American certainly deserves various political interpretations. I highlight, however, the recovery of a certain root of globalization. By invoking one America across all the peoples that make up the various Americas, the target was the Trump Administration and the shadow that hangs over the air of the times, but the reflection is what has best characterized the USA as a successful nation over the last decades and centuries. North American presidents like Ronald Reagan practically never ignored it and knew very well that closing the country to this reality and to “new Americans” would mean losing its greatest enrichment and, consequently, leadership in the world.

Like the Portuguese and Europeans, there was also a response to the lying narratives of “open doors” and the likes of Trumpism here. Art, when done well and applied on the right stage, has these things that make it supreme in symbolism and effect. Almost always beyond any speech or political stance and at the risk of lasting longer across time or space.

Recovering this root of globalization also involves remembering what the most troubled periods were and the effective path that has been followed since then. From September 11, 2001 in the USA, to the attacks in Madrid and London a few years later, Europe has been very successful in eliminating terrorist threats and religious extremism in their name. Contrary to what far-right parties on the continent often make us believe. Today, most of the European Union’s security and defense reports, which Portuguese public opinion should pay more attention to, indicate that the great danger is beginning to come from within. Just like in the USA. From ultranationalist groups to the extreme right, to Nazism and anti-Semitism, whose ideologies were not as trivialized as they had been since the end of World War II.

Confusing, in Portugal, the need to regulate immigration much better, the urgency of more efficient services, less dated and inexplicably slow in legalization with inspection and what would indicate supposed “open doors” in the recent past, is not only dangerous and untrue. It is against the country’s interests. Time was also responsible for showing this in an urgent and accelerated way.

All that’s left is for the Government to change the chip and realize that what doesn’t matter today are, here, broken doors in the name of politicking.
