EU investigates X for sexualized images generated by the Grok chatbot

Elon Musk’s social network X faces a European Union investigation into privacy after its Grok AI ‘chatbot’ began releasing images deepfake non-consented, the Irish data privacy regulator announced this Tuesday, February 17th.

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission said it notified X on Monday that it was opening the inquiry under European Union (EU) data privacy regulations, increasing the scrutiny X faces in Europe and other parts of the world due to Grok’s behavior.

Grok sparked a global backlash last month after it began fielding requests from X users to undress people with its Artificial Intelligence (AI) image-generating and editing abilities, including putting women in see-through bikinis or revealing outfits. Researchers said some images appeared to include children.
