The Aga Khan Foundation will donate 1.5 million euros to support the reconstruction of areas affected by bad weather, partially conditioning the use of funds on the reconstruction of schools, support for students and families and the creation of microforests.
The Ismaili Imamata and the Aga Khan Foundation, institutions based in Portugal and led by Prince Rahim Aga Khan (Aga Khan V), will donate 1.5 million euros “to support the reconstruction and revitalization of the areas of the country most affected by the recent storms”, but the “financial contribution” is partially targeted.
“This financial contribution should be partially used to support students and their families, as well as to reinforce educational structures, helping schools to resume normal functioning and in safe conditions. The creation of microforests and green spaces that contribute to the stabilization of the ecosystem should also be the target of this investment”reads the statement released this Tuesday, February 17th.
According to the statement, “the implementation of the aid program” will be carried out “in close coordination with the Government and national and local authorities, in order to ensure that this aid is an effective contribution to the communities that suffered most from the bad weather that affected the country”.
The Aga Khan Foundation presents itself as “an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) that brings together a group of profit and non-profit organizations, which work to improve the conditions and quality of life of the most vulnerable populations, regardless of their origin, gender or religion”.
