Kilauea volcano registers a new eruption in Hawaii

WORLD.- The Kilauea volcano recorded a new and impressive eruption, the lava fountain exceeded 300 meters highwhich has left spectacular images.

Kilauea volcano is one of the most active and youngest volcanoes in the world. It is located on the island of Hawaii and has a height of 1,247 meters. Its name means “to throw” or “to spit” in Hawaiian, due to its constant eruptions of fluid lava.

The column of ash and smoke reached more than 10 kilometers in height, rising above the slopes of the volcano and generating an impressive spectacle visible from several kilometers around.

Lava gushed from its openings and flowed down the slopes as ash and smoke rose into the air, as seen in a video provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The latest information shared by @USGSVolcanoes indicates that “the source of the south vent is at 250 meters 800 altitude and the source of the north vent at 180 meters (600 feet). The summit deflated 22 microradians as 10 million cubic yards of lava erupted, which covered 40% of the crater floor.”

USGS scientists said the volcano has been experiencing intermittent eruptions since the December 23, 2024. Kilauea is one of the most volcanically active sites on the planet.

Despite the new volcanic activity recorded, this does not represent a danger for the population because the volcano’s caldera has been closed to the public for almost two decades.

However, close monitoring is maintained over the emission of volcanic gases, which can affect air quality in surrounding areas.
