Searches for Elderly Couple in Montemor-o-Velho Suspended: GNR and Firefighters Involved

The searches to find the elderly couple from the municipality of Montemor-o-Velho, district of Coimbra, who have been missing since Friday, were suspended at around 6:20 pm this Sunday, a source from the Territorial Command of the GNR in Coimbra told Lusa.

According to the same source, Search work was suspended at nightfall and is expected to resume on Monday.

The couple, aged 68 and 65, residing in Verride, left home and did not return, which prompted an alert from family members at 7:45 pm on Friday.

GNR source explained, theearly this Sunday morning, that 13 soldiers from the National Republican Guard and 18 firefighters would be engaged in the search, also with the help of drones, “in the area of ​​residence and on the routes they could have taken”.

The searches began on Friday, having been suspended at 10 pm and resumed on Saturday morning with four GNR soldiers and five Soure Volunteer Firefighters, with the support of two vehicles.

At 7pm on Saturday, the GNR suspended work, with 14 operatives and five vehicles involved, a source from the Sub-regional Civil Protection Command of the Coimbra Region told Lusa.

According to the commander of the Soure Fire Department, João Paulo Contente, on Saturday, the searches are taking place in the western part of the municipality, in the parish of Vinha da Rainha, in an area that covers the agricultural rice fields of Vale do Pranto.
