Russian diplomacy classified as “necropropaganda” and an “outrage to the dead” the accusations made by the governments of five Western countries regarding the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny with a lethal toxin extracted from a species of South American frog.
“What is really shocking is the method now favored by Western politicians — necropropaganda. It is not a search for justice, but a mockery of the dead. Even after the death of the Russian citizen, London and European capitals do not let him rest in peace — a fact that says a lot about those who instigated this campaign”, noted the Russian Embassy in London, in a statement released on social media, on the eve of marking the second anniversary of the opponent’s death in an Arctic prison and after having been the conclusions of an investigation into Navalny’s death were announced.
The United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands reported on Saturday that Navalny died of poisoning with a lethal toxin present in poisonous dart frogs in South America.
“There is absolutely no reason to give credence to such ‘findings’ by Western ‘experts’. As in the Skripal case, there are strident accusations, media hysteria, no evidence and a host of issues that the accusers prefer to ignore,” says the Russian embassy in London.
“We have become accustomed to the lack of discernment of Western fabulists. We have to ask what kind of person would believe this nonsense about a frog”, reacted the embassy, which also criticized “the slavish participation of affiliated media outlets”. “The objective of this ridiculous spectacle is clear: to revive a declining anti-Russian fervor in Western societies. If there is no pretext, it is laboriously invented,” he says.
In turn, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, described the European accusations as an “information campaign to divert attention from the serious problems in the West”.
“At a time when it would be necessary to present the results of the investigations into (the gas pipelines) Nord Stream 1 and 2, remember Navalny,” he said.
Zakharova recalled that, at the time, Russia unsuccessfully asked Europe for the results of analyzes that would incriminate it in the poisoning of Navalny and former Russian spy Serguei Skripal.
The United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands highlighted that their respective governments reached the conclusion of poisoning based on samples taken from Navalny, which conclusively confirmed the presence of this substance called epibatidine.
