“We have a very good relationship with Delcy”

“I’m going to pay a visit to Venezuela,” Trump responded today to journalists at the White House, going on to explain that it has not yet been defined when said trip will take place.

The president made these statements shortly before taking off to a military base in North Carolina, where today he plans to meet with members of the US special forces who participated in the arrest in January of former Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro.

“We have a very good relationship with the president of Venezuela,” Trump said. The White House tenant reiterated that he is “working very closely” with Delcy to facilitate access to oil: “The relationship we have right now with Venezuela, I would say is a ten.”

When asked directly about whether he will recognize Delcy, who calls herself interim president, as an official representative of the Venezuelan government, Trump forcefully responded that they have already done so.

“Yes, we have done it. We are dealing with them and they have really done a great job at this moment,” he stressed.

Finally, Trump commented that Rodríguez is doing a “very, very good job” and praised the framework agreed with Caracas to reopen the Venezuelan crude oil production market to foreign oil companies under the strict control of Washington.

“The oil is coming out, and other nations are paying a lot of money for it, and we are taking care of it. We are refining it, and we are the only ones with the capacity to refine it,” Trump explained about the role that the US refineries in the Gulf of Mexico are playing, specialized in the processing of heavy crude oil, which is what is mainly produced in Venezuela.
