In the midst of the energy crisis, the Havana refinery catches fire

And fire broke out this Friday afternoon in the Ñico López oil refinerylocated in the Havana Bayreported AFP journalists.

An immense column of black smoke, coming from the refinery site, was visible from the other side of the canal. Havana Baywithout it being possible to specify whether the fire affected the factory’s oil tanks.

The fire, which quickly lost intensity, according to AFP, broke out very close to the place where two oil tankers were anchored. Until now no official media has referred to the fact.

The two ships of the Mexican Navy who transported more than 800 tons of humanitarian aid to the island, mired in a deep economic crisis aggravated by pressure from Washington.

Cuba faces a very serious energy crisis after the end of oil supplies from Venezuela after the fall of Nicolás Maduro and in the face of Washington’s threats to impose tariffs on countries that sell it oil.

To save energy, the communist government put into effect on Monday an emergency plan that includes, among other measures, restrictions on fuel sales and a four-day work day.
