Brazilian deputies approve project to support the purchase of the “first weapon”

The Public Security and Combating Organized Crime Commission of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved this week a project that establishes the “My First Weapon Program”.

The idea, by Marcos Pollon, deputy of Jair Bolsonaro’s PL, is to exempt those who want to acquire their first firearm from federal taxes.which is why the press is already calling the initiative “Bolsa Pistola”, in reference to the social programs “Bolsa Família”, “Bolsa Gás”, “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” and many other social programs of Lula da Silva’s governments.

Pollon, like other deputies close to Bolsonaro, is part of the so-called “Bancada da Bala”, a group of deputies from different parties made up of former military and former police officers. “There is no economic or social rationality that justifies such a heavy tax burden on a personal defense instrument”affirms Pollon.

The proposal still has to go through the parliamentary Finance and Taxation and Constitution and Justice committees before being voted on by the Chamber plenary.
