Bar Association launches direct channel with IRN to deal with nationality cases

Lawyers now have an exclusive communication channel to deal with issues related to nationality requests. The demand was old, given the difficulty of in-person and online service with the entity. THE The objective is to make communication more efficient, and not a measure to speed up the more than 700,000 requests being analyzed.

The channel was announced by the Bar Association (OA) and is now available. “The Bar Association reaffirms its commitment to ensuring solid and effective conditions for the full and dignified practice of law, creating, together with the IRN, a channel for collecting information, with a view to overcoming the constraints that lawyers have felt regarding records and which have been reported to this General Council”, highlights a note from the OA.

One of the objectives is that problems can be resolved more quickly. “Through the OA-IRN channel, lawyers can identify the difficulties they face in handling their cases with the IRN, allowing for faster resolution, as a result of adequate screening and routing of matters”, points out the entity.

This demand had been requested in April 2025 by Brazilian lawyer Elaine Linhares. “I hope communication improves for us lawyers”, says the professional to DN Brazil. Another request that has already been met was the creation of a direct channel with the Agency for Integration, Migrations and Asylum (AIMA).

The difficulty in contacting lawyers with public entities in Portugal is a recurring problem. The topic has been discussed at meetings of the Bar Association and is also the target of criticism on social media by professionals..
