The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) brought forward the opening of the renewal portal for residence permits expiring in April. Generally, orders were only released at the end of each month.
According to a statement from the agency, the anticipation aims to “guarantee greater efficiency in procedures and reduce any embarrassment for citizens to a minimum”. The note was published on AIMA’s social networks.
At the end of December, the agency allowed the renewal of documents that would lose validity in January and February. Release for bonds maturing in March occurred on January 28th.
A month-to-month renewal was implemented in July last year, with the creation of a specific portal. The government’s objective is to avoid the accumulation of expired residence permits, as occurred in previous years, when more than 374 thousand immigrants were left without access to an effective renewal method.
This large volume of expired documents was renewed in person by Mission Structure between July and December last year. There are still orders being evaluated, while others have already been finalized, with the card being sent.

However, Criticism persists regarding the delay in issuing renewed documents. There are reports of people treated in July who have not yet received their residence permit, while others, treated later, already have the document in hand.
The legal deadline for deciding and sending the renewed residence permit is 60 days. Despite that, AIMA itself recognizes the delays by creating a new proof, the “approval”. However, as the DN/DN Brazil has already revealed, these vouchers are not guaranteed to be effective and may not be recognized by either public government entities or private institutions.
There are cases of people being prevented from working, in addition to other financial losses caused by the delay in issuing a residence permit. THE DN Brazil He has already questioned the agency about the matter, but has not received a response.
