Shooting at a school in Krasnodar, Russia, leaves one dead and two injured

A student opened fire on Wednesday at a technical school in Anapa, in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia, leaving one dead and two wounded, local authorities reported.

Armed attacks on schools have tended to be increasingly numerous in Russia for some years, especially with firearms, despite very restrictive laws recently strengthened.

“According to preliminary information, a student at a technical school in Anapa opened fire with an unidentified weapon in the lobby,” causing one death and two injuries, the local delegation of the Ministry of the Interior indicated on Telegram.

The attacker, who according to the police is a student at this center in Krasnodar, was arrested.

In addition, the governor of the region, Veniamin Kondratiev, specified that the deceased was a guard.

“At the moment there is one death: the guard who received the first shot. He reacted quickly and alerted law enforcement. He did not let the attacker enter,” he said on Telegram.

Videos shared on social networks, which AFP could not verify, show a young man dressed in black with his hands raised in front of the entrance of the establishment, whose façade is decorated with images commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
