The President of the Republic considered this Wednesday, February 11, that the Prime Minister’s decision to assume responsibility for the Ministry of Internal Affairs is “a political signal” given to the country.
“The Prime Minister, when taking office, in these days that are particularly sensitive, wanted to give a political signal”said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who was speaking to journalists almost at the end of a visit to the Coimbra region, which is currently experiencing the risk of flooding in the Mondego basin.
Maria Lúcia Amaral resigned on Tuesday from her position as Minister of Internal Administration, with the Prime Minister taking over that responsibility.
With Luís Montenegro at his side on the visit, the President of the Republic considered it “an understandable decision” for the leader of the Government to take on the role in a bad weather situation, “which will last for the next few days”.
